Unlike the method adopted for last Tuesday, when he completed 80 laps around the 2.5 miles oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and reached second fastest average speed of the day, this Wednesday was strategic for Helio Castroneves, who did 15 laps and ended in 23rd. Although this option was more conservative, the first five days of practice for the Team Penske driver resulted in a 3rd fastest speed with 222.025 mph average.
“We chose to work in the garages to implement some things that were developed during the previous practices, and also, we monitored the proper use of the tires, as the regulations limits the quantity of sets allowed,” said Castroneves, revealing just how important the tire strategy for the 96th Indy 500 will be. The Indy 500 will take place on May 27th.
